I let them put their faces on as early as possible cause I don’t know what they want to wear until I know what they look like

I’ve been getting a lot of emails about process & armatures. I am seriously thinking of starting to write a post every now & then because if people are interested I want to help. I use wire as an armature – different gauges for different body parts. These ones have cones for the bottom half because they are tree toppers. Then I sculpt them out of my pulp/clay –
details of making clay/pulp here .Anyway if you click on the photo to enlarge you can see the difference in texture between their faces -already sanded & painted with a first coat – & their bodies – left unsanded as they will be gessoed & covered with the paper that will be their clothes. Also you can see the beginnings of their hands which are a PAIN to make
